KAKTUS IS BACK
DANCE FOR EVERYBODY
THE PHILOSOPHY behind the Kaktus contemporary dance festival is that contemporary dance is for everybody. From 3 to 7 December interesting and intriguing performances from the best of contemporary dance in Finland can be seen at the Cable Factory. Invited guests from abroad, among them Olga Zitluhina Dance Company from Latvia, Riga, are also performing at the festival.

The Kaktus festival was started six years ago by the Dance company Gruppen Fyra who thought this kind of festival was needed in Helsinki. Gruppen Fyra is a Finnish contemporary dance group established in 1998. Gruppen Fyra’s current members are Pia Tavela, Jenni Nikolajeff and Tommi Haapaniemi, Kaisu Hölttä and Virpi Juntti. The group also has several bonus members representing different branches of the arts.

The members of the group want to expand people’s knowledge of dance by performing in places where dance is not normally seen: in the streets, trams, fairs, department stores and in different business occasions. The festival promises high-level and easily approachable contemporary dance
filled with humour and great enthusiasm.
